Duplex Stainless Steels Conference & Expo 2010
Presentations will be sourced on the comparison of properties between duplex and other alloys. Visitors to this upcoming conference will therefore benefit from the up-to-date exchange of information on long-term experiences with duplex stainless steels that have taken place since the previous Beaune Conference in 1991. The main topic will be cost saving and life-cycle aspects of nitrogen-containing duplex stainless steels in a variety of applications. The conference programme will be put together by an Executive Committee of industrial & research experts and will be chaired by Jacques Charles, General Manager Global R&D of ArcelorMittal. He has been active in the Steering Committees of all previous Duplex and Stainless Steel World Conferences. He chaired the Duplex Stainless Steels Conference in Beaune, France in 1991; co-chaired the Duplex Stainless Steels Conference in Maastricht, The Netherlands in 1997 and the Duplex Stainless Steels Conference in Grado, Italy in 2007. He has been responsible for numerous R&D projects and was Product Manager Stainless Steel and Clad Plates of Industeel, which gave him a lot of knowledge on the applications of duplex stainless steels. Recently, he has been heavily involved in the further development of stainless steels coils and sheet in Europe and Brazil.

Sudden death of Huub Slijpen
06 April 2010 It is with great sadness that we have heard of the sudden death of Huub Slijpen of Cerec Antonius on Tuesday evening, March 30th 2010 at the age of 51. Huub has worked on the Steering Committee of a number of our Stainless Steel World Conferences and Exhibitions and his advice, enthusiasm, and ideas will be sorely missed. We will remember him as a very well respected colleague and friend. We extend your sympathy to his family and those who knew him well.

Wire 2010 and Tube 2010 round-up
This year almost 69,200 trade visitors from over 100 countries attended the two global No. 1 trade fairs wire, International Wire and Cable Trade Fair, and Tube, International Tube and Pipe Trade Fair, held from 12 to 16 April 2010, to gather information on the latest machinery, equipment and products from the wire, cable and tube processing industries; and all the exhibitors polled in the exhibition halls agreed that the professionalism of the visitors registered at the stands had been again higher than before.
